***ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING THE ABATEMENT PROCESS***
Abatement applications submitted before the issuance of July tax bills remain under review. Please be advised that the Town maintains until July 1st to render decisions on abatement requests. Should you wish to proceed, you retain the right to appeal to the Board of Tax and Land Appeals (BTLA) or Superior Court at this juncture. Regardless of any appeal filed, the Town reserves the authority to grant or deny pending abatement applications. Any approved abatements resulting in adjusted property assessments will be applied and reflected in the December tax bill. We thank you for your continued patience as we complete this process.
In the Town of Rindge, the Board of Selectmen act as the Board of Assessors. The duties of the Assessors per RSA 48:13 are "The assessors, however elected, shall constitute a board of assessors for the city, who shall perform all the duties relative to taking the inventory and the appraisal of property for taxation, and in regard to the assessment and abatement of taxes and issuing warrants for the collection of the same, as are now or may hereafter be required by law of selectmen and assessors of towns; and shall have all the powers and be subject to the same liabilities, in regard to those duties, which selectmen and assessors in towns now or hereafter may have, or be subject to, in regard to the same."
Assessing Deadlines
March 1 - Deadline for abatement applications (RSA 76:16)
April 1 - Last Day to notify the municipality that current timber cuts will extend beyond April 1 & the New Property Tax Year begins, any changes made after this date will take effect the following tax year.
April 15 - Deadline for the following:
May 15 - Deadline to file a report of cut for the preceding tax year. (RSA 79:11)
June 1 - Deadline to file BTLA A-12 (financials) for charitable organizations seeking exemption (RSA 72:23 VI)
