Miriam Hunt Memorial Forest Tour
The Rindge Conservation Commission invites the public to get outside and celebrate National Fall Foliage Week on Sunday, September 25th while exploring Miriam Hunt Memorial Forest. Colorful foliage changes should be starting in late-September. The family-friendly 1-hour hike will follow wide grassy trails through a mixed forest with views across a wetland. The hike begins at 1:30 p.m. from the parking area on Route NH-119 diagonally across from Cutter Hill Road (approximately 2 ½ miles east of the intersection of NH-119 and US-202). The hike is free and open to everyone.
National Fall Foliage Week was created to bring families together as tree colors change following shorter days and dropping temperatures. The celebration begins annually on the last Sunday of September. This is a time to not only admire the vibrant shades of red and orange, but also the trees they grow on. New Hampshire trees impact our lives in many ways from maple syrup, to furniture, shady hiking trails, lumber for home construction, and removal of pollution from the air.
The Miriam Hunt Memorial Forest hike is part of Rindge Conservation Commission’s Annual Hike and Paddle Series that highlights the beautiful trails, forests, and wetlands in Rindge. The last hike of the Series is October 16, at Contoocook Marsh. Each outing is led by an experienced Conservation Commission member with specific knowledge of the history and unique natural features present on the conservation land. Franklin Pierce Professor Fred Rogers will be leading the Miriam Hunt Forest hike.
The Rindge Conservation Commission actively monitors and protects wetlands, lakeshores, watersheds, and other natural resources within the Town of Rindge. Hikes, work days and events are held regularly to involve and educate the public about conservation areas and benefits of preserving land for the future. Town-owned conservation lands are open to the public for outdoor recreation.
