Rindge Conservation Commission Hosts Community Paddle on the Contoocook River
RINDGE, NH — The Rindge Conservation Commission invites the community to a free, family-friendly paddle on the Contoocook River on Sunday, July 19, at 1:30 p.m.
Paddlers will launch from the boat ramp on County Road, at the edge of the Contoocook Marsh Conservation Complex, a stretch of wetlands and protected woodland near the river's headwaters. From here, the Contoocook — one of only a few rivers in New Hampshire that flows north — begins its remarkable 71-mile journey to Penacook, where it joins the Merrimack.
The quiet stretch of the Contoocook in Rindge is known for its extraordinary beauty and environmental importance. The flatwater welcomes beginners, and the rich habitat offers opportunities to spot loons, herons, and other wildlife.
Canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards are welcome. Participants should bring a life jacket, along with sunscreen, water, and bug spray.
The paddle is part of the Rindge Conservation Commission's Annual Hike and Paddle Series, a collection of events designed to help residents experience the town's conservation lands firsthand.
The Rindge Conservation Commission works to protect the town's wetlands, lakeshores, watersheds, and other natural resources while encouraging the community to explore and appreciate them. Through hikes, volunteer workdays, and educational programs, the Commission helps ensure these special places remain healthy and accessible for future generations.
